A local store here recently had a sale where you traded in old lead acid
batteries for store credit via a gift card. I took in several batteries
which included 3 of the ever so common 17/20 AH capacity ones that seem to
be used in every jump start pack ever made and noticed that the 2 that were
out of cheap yellow jump start units were very light weight compared to the
third which was out of a Xantrex XPower 300C (jump start, air compressor,
and 250W inverter) and a fourth that is out of an electric scooter and is
currently connected to my Back-UPS Pro 650. Obviously less weight means
less lead used to make it so what should I do to help make sure that I get
the good heavy ones and not the cheapies?

And in case you are wondering no, I didn't kill the batteries in the 2
yellow cheapies they were both DOA and were given to me for parts. The
xantrex died because it wasn't very well balanced standing up and fell over
off our picnic table and hit the concrete tiles which broke an internal
connection in the battery.
