Getting iffy readings with DVMs on higher resistances

Hi all,

Just tried to verify the value of a resistor that was marked 330k and
the DVM wouldn't give a stable reading. Tried a spare DVM and the same
thing happened. No problems with lower value resistors, but why should
I get floating readings with anything in this higher range? I think
it's unlikely that both meters are faulty.

Don't hold the resistor/probe combo with your fingers. I always put the resistor
on the table and push down on the leads with the probes. I have no problems
whatsoever reading 10M like this.
Otherwise, it's not impossible that both your meters are defective.

D'oh!
Thanks, chaps. I can't believe I forgot to do that. I'm sure you're
right and that's the problem. :-(
This silly mistake would have been instantly recognised as such with
an analogue meter, though! :)
