GE 31" TV problem

TV is a 1995 (approx) GE 31" model number F31700GG (not sure what the
chasis # is)

Sympton = no picture, squiggly horizontal lines running across the
entire area of the tube with about 3-4" between each one. In quick
discussion with local TV repair over the phone, mention of a faulty
"pinch tube" ?

Can anyone confirm the possibility of this diagnosis, provide another,
or suggest next steps ?

(p.s. in line with disposable electronics, a repair cost exceeding
$100 would mean this puppy goes to the recycle depot)

Gotta clean out those Ears..Its " Picture Tube "..
or shorted transistor in video section.
Might even be bad filter cap off flyback.

Aids.. I thought they were working, at least better than this here
TV.. Guess I best soak 'em in a glass
of wax remover.. Picture tube -- hmmm sounds expensive.

That model number belongs on an RCA, not a GE although they are almost
twins. Crosses to a CTC169 chassis

Picture tube failure is a long shot on this model with that symptom.
CTC169 chassis are more likely to have a video drive problem.

New TVs are often disposable junk with a built in short life span,
that RCA\GE has many years left providing the picture tube is still
strong. Donate it to a TV shop; they will recondition it and sell it.
One less thing in the landfill (not everything from recycling gets
recycled.

The picture tube is always the first thing amatures suspect, and the
least likely to actually be the problem.

The tech probably just told you that so you wouldn't bug him, no repair
shop likes to try to estimate anything over the phone, there's just no
way to tell what the problem is or how much labor will be involved.

Best bet is to take the set into a repair shop for an estimate. Try to
find a shop that has a good reputation with your neighbors, and let the
shop know that you will be happy to tell everyone if they do a good job
at a reasonable approach. Shops appreciate good referrals and are
likely to do a good job for you if they know you will let others know
you got good service.
