In the attachment of this function generator circuit, what would be the limits of using a 1M pot on the 100k resistor on the very bottom op amp. This would be the bottom left resistor that is not labeled? I'm trying to construct this but have an understanding on what why limits would be.

For a fixed frequency you might get results approximating what you want, but things will go pear shaped as you change frequency

So, if I was wanting to construct the circuit using variable frequency control, this circuit would not suit my needs?

I don't really know what your needs are, but you will find the amplitude of your triangular wave changes with frequency and the "shape" and amplitude of the "sine" wave will too
