I need to charge a battery Vbb= 9V Ibattery=400ma (average). How I can know the value of the resistor?

Silicon Diodes and the Secondary Voltage is 17vsin(2pi60t)

What sort of battery is it? A constant current is likely to overcharge any battery. The exception is a really huge battery where the current (400mA) is a trickle charge.
