Hello,

for a small personal project I would like to do some simulations. I only
need simple sources (point and surface) and reflective elements. No
dispersion needs to be taken into account. As a result I would like to
get IES or Eulumdat files.

Is there a freeware program capable of doing it? Like you have FreeBPM
for doing beam propagation method simulations?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any free ray trace programs that would give you the
output you are looking for, but you can get a 30 day free trial of
TracePro from Lambda Research that would do what you need.

That could be an option. On the other hand this would probably result in
problems if I want to make a real test trial later.

(there may be a third one, but I don't have the link)

Both are supported by fixture manufacturers in hopes that their
products will wind up in the building. They are very capable (and
therefore fairly complex,) but do not easily do raytracing, rather
they focus on radiosity calculations.

I haven't really thought about these programs. I used them in the past
for their original purpose.

It's definitely not impossible to solve my problem with these programs,
but it would be a very cumbersome approach. I still hope that I can find
a different solution.
