I was reading somewhere online in which they said flexible PCBs save space compared to rigid PCBs . How does this work? Do they save space just because they bend and fit more easily in smaller more intricate applications?

Welcome to the forum. Yes flexible PCB's can be bent, rolled up and in some case folded to allow them to fit in a smaller environment.

Yup. Does it require anything special for manufacturing?

Which online source you are following? Yes, as the name implies they are flexible to fit.
