flashlight and strobe

    I have my patent. I am building the prototype. I hit a snag.

    One power source, 4x3.6v Tadiran 2400mAh AA batteries.
    One LED, one buckpuck.

    Two actuators, one momentary NO for the strobe and one switch for the flashlight.

    Goal is 300 lumens on the LED for the flashlight and 1500 lumens on the strobe.

    Goal is also an actuator on the flashlight and the strobe that can either be off or on, either, or both, without blowing up the LED. So I need to have the strobe fire when the flashlight is on, or off, through the same driver.

    I have solved all my other issues, such as heat dissipation from device operation, internal air circ to interact with (huge!) heat sink, internal air circulation in a closed watertight device, and heating the inside for extreme cold environments. I am iffy if I can operate a 12v setup with 4x3.6v batteries, because it will run a little hot.

    I am also journaling the R&D for my kids, and wanted to learn how to do the circuit diagram.

    The vendor got me as far as this quote:


    "You could use the dimming 1000mA BuckPuck driver and have a switch in-series with a resistor between the dimming wires. When the switch is open (off), the driver would run at the full 1000mA. When the switch is closed, the driver will see the resistance across the dimming wires and lower the drive current. To reduce the drive current from 1000mA to 350, you would use a 1,750 ohm resistor (between the CTL and REF wires). You could then have the strobe function be separate (or somehow shunted when the switch for 350mA operation is closed)."

    So, with no electronics training, I am trying to finish my prototype and get something out there for testing for series one under the watchful eye of my provisional patent. Anything helps, just a nudge in the right direction. The chassis isn't huge, so miniaturization is a concern.
