Hi - I was just wondering what you think the best style of potentiometer is
for through hole mounting or surface mount? I have little experience with
the various styles - but so far - my favorite was a kind that came in a
small blue box with a little screw on the top. Are some designs better for
some reason? The reason I ask is I'm ordering up parts (from Digi Key - if
it matters) on Monday and I can't quite decide on what kind of
potentiometer I want to use. Any advice? Thanks so much!

The multiturns don't generally have better resolution than the
singles; their dinky screw mechanisms have a lot of backlash. I like
    the 4 mm surface-mount things.

They claim 3% CRV vs. 1% on the usual 3/8" square pots. Are the wipers
polyfurcated (if that's a real word)?

For low end applications, I've had good luck with the single turn 6mm
cermet open ("dustproof") types. They are < 1/10 the price.

The 3/8" square multiturn potentiometers are horrible. If you can find
room for the 19mm long trimming potentiometers with the adjusting
screw at one end you will find that that they are easier to set and
have much less back-lash when you over-shoot the desired value.

The variant with the clear top, that lets you see when you have
screwed the wiper up to one end or the other, is even nicer, and not
    much dearer.
