Fan Motor/EMI/Health

Hello all,

I have recently bought a destkop fan. However, upon placing it near my
computer monitor, it distorts the display considerably. I know this is
caused by Electromagnetic Interference. I have since placed the fan away
from the monitor, which fixes the distortion problem. However, I have one
last question. Does this sort of EMI have any adverse effect on my health,
or is it negligible (remember it is strong enough to distort the monitor)?

Thanks in advance,

The only health effect that has been shown for EMI is if the energy is
sufficient to cause heating of the cells as in microwave oven. There is no
effect from the low frequency EMI from the fan.

It will be the magnetic field from the fan, which is not EMI (
"ElectroMagnetic" ie radio type signals).
Not known to be harmful!

If you set the monitor refresh rate to be the same of double your line
frequency, then the wavering will stop even if the motor is near them
monitor. Diet Sleep and exercise is more important than staying away
from motors.

The electron stream in a CRT tube is specifically INTENDED to be
deflected by electromagnetic force. In fact, it's a pretty sensitive
detector of such force.

If you spend any time at all sitting in front of a computer monitor,
I'd worry about radiation from that infinitely more than about emr
from a motor. Oh yes, and don't go out in the sunlight.
