So what do you do to prevent outdoor cameras from being ripped off of a
building. One installation I inspected recently showed evidence that
somebody climbed up on the roof from non covered wall, and bashed the
cameras off the wall with abat or something and stole the cameras. They
were mounted to the brick wall with lag shields and one way lag bolts.

In another application I looked at a while back looked like they threw a
rope over them and pulled them offr the wall witha truck.

Obviously better cameras coverage would be a necessity, but I'ld sure like
to see an outdoor camera housing that doesn't give any l;everage for pulling
or smacking them off the wall.

Any suggestions?

Try the domes from Extreme CCTV or Whiz Kid. Heavy duty and vandal resistant.
You can also post your message on www.cctvforum.com which has a large base of
CCTV specialists who discuss this and other CCTV questions.

I concurr on this. I just smashed tested a WizKid WZ-46 Dome, would
not break no matter what we tried. We used Hammers, then Sledge
Hammers, and just today drove over and over it with a 4000+lb vehicle,
nothing!!! The hammers did leave damage to the cover, but the camera
can still see through it as its not that much, just a few dots. It
impressed me :) Havent had great luck with the IR dome versions
though (had a couple that were defects), so maybe best to stick to the
regular color or BW ones. Extreme also has the domes that are just as
tough, and have a day/night wall mount camera, and a corner mount that
have seperate IR LEDs, which work great; they cost much more than the
WizKid though, but better IR.

As for pulling it off the building/wall, that would be up to the
installer to figure out, cant think of anything fool proof off hand,
besides keeping it as high as possible, and having more coverage so it
is all recorded.

Frankly, in areas where this has been a bad problem, I usually tell my
customers to put fake cameras up that are visible, and hide the real
cameras inside something that doesn't look like a camera housing.

I've seen people put the cameras way up on poles so that they are out
of reach. I've also seen where the crooks cut down the poles with
saws & such. Putting them on poles also restricts the angle of view
the camera has.

Useing a dome can help, if the dome can be mounted in a way so that it
cannot be pried off the wall with a crowbar.
