I am making a project on Encoder primer right now,,,
for which first i am required to know something about it,,,
i will first have to make its circuit then its applications,,
being of mechanical field i know that it is used to measure the movement of a mechanical part,,
now i only want to know where in electronics components it is used and which are they....

is it Rotation
is it Linear movement
How fast does it move?
How far does it move?
What accuracy?
What do you want to get out from the circuit?
What is the frequency of readings

Like all engineering, it HAS to start with defining the problem. If other people can understand it, then you can start looking at solutions.
