After a thunder storm yesterday, my emerson VCR has no power
indication. I checked the fuse. It is still short. What else could be?
Thanks.

Probably an electrolytic in the power supply with a high ERS reading. Not
something an amateur could fix unless you had the test equipment & knowledge
to troubleshoot it.

I measured across both electrical plug, they are open, which is not
correct. So I followed further and measured the primary coil of
xformer, it is open. I believe the xformer is bad. Any suggestion? The
xformer has "SA001 9" on it. What is the output voltage? 9V??
Thanks.

The reply from Patch is probably correct in two regards.... possibly high
ESR electrolytics in the PS.... and this is not something an amateur can fix
without some basic knowledge, experience and test equipment which apparently
is absent after looking at your original post and 2nd post which lacks
technical detail and pertinent troubleshooting results.....
.... BUT for this thread to go an further with the desired results of
pertinent and helpful troubleshooting and repair suggestions you really do
need to post the MODEL NUMBER. I am certain that it is obvious to you that
over the years Emerson has built a lot of different models of VCRs and most
of them have differing circuitry and components.
Always post the model number..... always.

As previously suggested, check the electrolytics in the PS with an ESR meter
or just replace them all, check the bridge and check for open low ohm
resistors, shorted diodes, open ICPs, etc. If you are not certain how to
proceed and do not have the necessary equipment, parts, experience,
knowledge, etc..... take it to a tech.
