emerson vcr - acting up

hey all, ive got an emerson vcr885 thats acting up.
at first it would play for a random amount of time (5mins to 1hour) then
the picture and audio would stop and the vcr would turn off. All signed
pointed to a warn capstan bearing so I inspected and oiled it and the
problem went away. That lased for about 1 day.

Now when I put in a tape it loads all the way, the video head starts
spinning, and the rollers move all the way up with the tape. But then
the transport motor keeps spinning even after the rollers are all the
way in place. This just causes the belt to slip since the rollers cant
move any farther. After about 1 second of the belt slipping the vcr
turns off. When turned back on the rollers disengage, the pickup real
picks up the slack tape, then it trys to play again and it happens all
over again.

It seems like it could be a mode switch now.. any ideas on what I should
do next?

Could be mode switch, I suppose, but more often it's just the loading belt
slipping and needing replacement.

Most of the time this can be the mode switch, cold solder, connection, a
component(s) in the power supply, or one of the servo amps, or control
circuits that is becoming thermo sensitive with heat and use.
