Question: Since Haltek came to grief, are there any good Electronics
stores left in Sunnyvale? IIRC they used to be around Linda Vista Avenue
but that was a long, long time ago.

Then there is Fry's but that's more a computer parts store.

You'll get mugged ;-)

I did hear some spooky stories about some areas there. Is it that bad by
now? I booked the Maple Tree BTW, thanks for the hint.

There's only Halted on Ryder St and Anchor Electronics:

JDR Microdevices and Jameco are not too far but they are not stores
for browsing.

I find it disappointing that I come here from Europe to Silicon Valley
where many of the devices are designed (and in some cases fabricated)
but the quickest way to get components is by ordering them from
Digikey in the mid-west. Components have been around the planet twice
by the time I get them.

Haltek was up in Mountain View. I miss 'em.

Yeah, don't we all miss those places :-(

Weird Stuff Warehouse is in Sunnyvale - they're on Caribbean, just
south of where Mathilda ends. More computer stuff than electronics,
but their as-is/junk room in the back is worth wandering through.

Thanks! That'll be the northern end and Mathilda is really close to
where I work anyhow:

Thanks. We had a Halted in Sacramento, AFAIK gone by now. But they
didn't have much in the area of analog stuff. Mostly really old surplus
gear.

Europes still has some Conrad Shops in major cities. I guess the client
base here in the West has eroded, kids don't build stuff anymore.

I always have a chauffeur ;-)

This time no chauffeur here but I got to Sunnyvale in 3hrs which is
unusual. It's a nice hotel BTW. They've got complimentary copies of the
Korean Daily but I can't read it. Internet access is very handy, I am
writing this from there. Unpacked the laptop -> bingo.

I'm trying to set up a list & map of the more interesting electronics
stores
in the South bay:

I still have to visit Excess Solutions in Milpitas - probably I'll
have time
to do it later this week.

Is there some shop that I am missing? How is San Jose Scientific - do
they
have electronic components?

Thanks,

- Alex

Isn't Sunnyvale where Buffy hangs out?
Don't you have a large vampire problem?

How often are you there (in Sunnyvale)? I _may_ be up there in a week
or so.

Only sporadically, usually whenever an EMC test is needed. There is a
large EMC lab (Elliot) next to Moffett Field but sometimes we'll use
their Fremont range. I'd scoot over there for a beer or two if it wasn't
such a looong drive. Took me 3-1/2hrs to get back here. BTW if you
arrive late and restaurants are about to close there is an In-and-Out
Burger across and up El Camino on the other side of the street (to the
right). Just a short walk. I usually don't frequent burger chains but
this one is fairly good, not sure if you Arizonians have them. Try their
"double-double" but don't tell your cardiologist about it.

What happened to R&D Electronics on Montague in Milpitas? The last
time I passed by there they were gone. Did they move or go out of
business?
