Hello! Anyone have seen the film "Sum Of All Fears" ??? When Morgan Freeman
& Ben Affleck enter to the meeting room, suddenly the glasses surrounding
the meeting room gets blurred. Is there any "real" material that with some
electricity applied can produce the same effects on large areas?
I believe it's kinda like the LCD displays .... any ideas on this material
???

Thanks alot!

There are LCD panels you can buy to do that... they're used in
advertising displays. I don't remember the brand name. (I was
researching ways to blank a license plate during photo radar ;-)

It's a thin sheet of LCD material laminated between glass panels. I
researched this about 5 years back, and 3M was the only manufacturer at
the time, under the name "3M Privacy Glass". Sold through licensed
glass fabricators, who would do the laminating to order, up to about
48"x96" IIRC.

Not quite crystal clear when active, but a nice frost when deactivated.
They had a slick demo kit that ran off a 9v battery. The large scale
runs off a light-duty 120v circuit, with a small coupling on one edge
(concealed in the frame). With that technology, I doubt it could've
been mounted in a door, though.

Around the time I was looking, Hometime (PBS) did a "house of the
future" show that included it. 3M discontinued it shortly afterward,
but I wouldn't be surprised if it's back on the market through them or
others. I recall it was in the USD$3000 range for a window-sized panel.
