I have an electric bed with a hand control that has a small circuit board
with some sort of switches that press onto the circuit board to make contact
to engage bed up and down ect., what i want to do is use a universal remote
control to control the bed, any ideas of a schematic of the type of circuit
and chips i would need to do this(ir recievers, switches ect..), or find
    information about,

    Is the bed control IR/...?

You would need relays (either mechanical or solid state) to emulate
the buttons, and an IR decoder IC to control the relay, an IR detector
module, and a power supply. You might be able to get a standalone
decoder IC, or use a microcontroller.
