I just got a Panosonic LD/dvd player on ebay and it has an odd problem that
hopefully somebody can help me with
It plays DVD's fine all the time but almost always doesn't "recognize" a
laser disc.
The symptom is it will load and position the laser but not start the disc
spinning but after a few seconds opens the tray and ejects teh disc. The blue
light that indicates that other than a Laser Disc is loaded blinks the whole
time
Ocassionally 1 in 5 to 10 times it immediately recognises the laser disc I
get the message that the component outputs are being turned off I get teh
spinning disc Icon and that the disc starts spinning. and the blue light
goes off. Once started it works great
To rule out a dirty disc I can have tried several disc and even run then
stop it and never remove the disc and then it won't start
Hopefully somebody has seen this and I can avoid the ned to return it
Thanks in Advance

First thing that I'd try is a simple lens clean

got it fixed !!
Seems the cam that elevates the platter was gummed up and while capable of
lifting dvd'd slipped with the LD not elevating it sufficiently to start the
motor
