    Hi ,

I would like to know if the tv format (NTSC/PAL) is generated by the DVD
player and /or by the coding on the DVD itself.

In other words, if I purchase a DVD in europe, can I play it in north
america, knowing that my player is region-free.

    Best wishes

Presummably the DVD standards are international, the actual incoding: be it
for PAL, SECAM, NTSC, Etc probably is done in the video processing of the
    player. IMHO
  3. At the digital level, as far as the content is conserned, all the
DVD's should be the same. The country code encryption must be matched
with the firmware of the machine as a first prioratory to allow the
    disk to be played back.

The video output drive is dependend on the type of system decoder that
the machine has. The decoder must be matched to the type of broadcast
system in the country of the use of the player.

This is a very basic description for an understanding only.
