DSC PC3000

I have a DSC PC3000 that functions normally except the "Trouble" light
is on. The complaint is "Fail to communicate" and this problem started
with the 15-hour power blackout we experienced last August. However,
there is no problem with the communications. The monitoring station is
receiving everything (false alarms, weekly test) normally.

If you try *2 to verify the trouble,(code 5) the "Trouble" light goes
off. However, a couple of minutes following arming the system, a
single beep is heard every couple of minutes (I reset it by touching
any key). Upon disarming the system, the trouble light comes on again.
Checking for codes shows the same code 5 and the trouble light goes
off. Two minutes later (with the system disarmed) the beep returns
until touching any key stops the beeping.

My alarm installer thinks that the PC board is faulty and needs
replacing and says that it has been discontinued.

Can you help?

Thanks for your time,

Eli

First thing I'd do is call your installer back and have him verify the
telephone connections. The best thing to do is have him hook a butt set up
to the incoming line and for you to arm the system normally so he can hear
what happens. Do you have a DSL modem installed?? Is there a filter on the
main line coming in??

He is right two times.
The telephone line monitor is now shot due to the surge when the power came
back on. I have a bunch of old 3000 boards if you really want one but I
would strongly suggest getting newer modern technology.

Hi Frank:

No DSL, no filters, this was an operating system until the blackout.

Thanks,

Eli

Well, this is a long shot, but you might try defaulting to factory and
re-programming. I have seen DSC products do strange things at times, mostly
unexplainable for any reason, and often a "default" and reprogram fixes the
problem.

I had a 2550 that used to send fire signals for no reason until I did that.
In my case, it did fix the problem...

1. Is it possible to get a PC3000 board from you?
2. What modern replacement would you recommend? Would this require
the replacement of all (4) keypads?

Thanks,
Eli

I would suggest you go with the DSC Power 832 or Power 864. If you want the
full sixteen zones, you're going to need an expander board (Part # PC-5208),
or you can even add two more for a total of 32 zones on the 832. You will
have to change the keypads unfortunately. If you go with the straight LED
ones then you'll save yourself some money... I'd suggest going with the
custom English LCD's (Part No. PC-5500). You can see them at
http://www.dscsec.com. You can also add wireless devices like keyfobs and
extra zones (if you want to expand upon what you already enjoy).

I'm sure any of the online dealers and stores at
http://www.yoursecuritysource.com/buyingonline.htm will be happy to help
you. They may even be in a position to give you a credit for your existing
keypads (since they're no longer manufactured). Why not ask them?!! If
not, sell 'em on eBay!!

Someone else indicated they had a new board - I have some which are new
enough to have the radio chip in them but they are all pretty old and well
used. If you switch the panel yes you do have to replace all those keypads.
And that panel has the multilevel led keypad which looks pretty good but DSC
used to have different key pads for every darn panel.
