Hi,

I bought a home that came with a DSC PC3000 installed. Apparently the
previous owner inherited it as well but never used it. There is no
sign of power at the keypad or the panel. I do not see a transformer
anywhere that is unplugged. The power cable does go inside the wall
as far as I can see. Could the system have been hotwired inside the
wall? If I can't find the power source, can I use a standard power
adapter and connect the wires to the terminal on the board?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,

Shyam

Check the attic, furnace closet, and garage for the transformer.

Hmmm...I don't have a usable attic, but I checked furnace closet and
garage but no luck :(. Looks like I might have to call someone in.

Before you do that, check the main electrical panel. There are two kinds of
transformers, wire in and plug in. It is possible your installer wired your
alarm transformer directly in to the main fuse panel. If so, you will see
the same kind of transformer hanging off the side as you often see for
doorbells.

Look for something rated at 20 or 40 VA. This is likely your alarm
transformer. If so, disconnect one side and the AC to your alarm panel will
disappear. Be careful you don't short across the two terminals though. If
you do, the transformer is toast permanently !!

The transformer may have been removed and the wire pushed back inside the
wall. If you can't find it, just buy a new 16.5 volt 40 VA transformer and
run a new cable. Make your connections BEFORE you plug it in. The
transformers have an internal fuse that will open if you short the
transformer's output even for an instant.
