DSC alarm system

I have a DSC PC1000RK alarm system, the electricity went off in my house the other day, after the electricity came back on the alarm sounded, then went off. But now the alarm won't arm itself whent the code is entered. I opened the control box, the battery has one post that is corroded away. Should the alarm still work without the battery if the electricity is on? The "ready" light is on & the appropriate "zone" light comes on when the door is opened.

Since your back-up battery wasn't working, you lost all your initial entry code information,... your system no longer remembers your initial arming code. Find the manual, or contact the mfgr, and find-out how to set-up your system from scratch again. (This is assuming the system wasn't damaged when the power surge came back on).
