Dropping resistor

I just bought a pr. of amplified speakers,{small} only 30 wattr rms.I
am putting these on my bike which is 12dc. The power supply that comes
with then is 120vac down to 9vac.I took 1 speaker apart and seen that
their was a circute to change it to dc.When I put my meter on the + -
It showed 12 vdc, hummm So I unsolder the wires and installed my own
wires that would connect to my 12 vdc battary. When I connected the amp.
the led light went out and the amp,.shut of.
I figured that I blew it out.
So I disconnected my wires and connected the wires back like it
was.Pluged it into the wall and turned on the amp. and it worked. So i
didn't blow it out.
I figure that it's running on 9 vdc well I know DC. So all I need is a
droping resitor to drop it to 9 vdc.
The transformer is 120 vac-9vac 500ma.
Thank you very much.

If the OP connects it *before* the bridge rectifier, the polarity won't
matter..just find another plug that fits, and wire it up.

Can your 12V supply on your bike supply 500ma+?
