    Use to be you could get $80 for drilling a switch in a Anderson or a Pella
    window or I guess any window. Now thanks to the free or the $100 ALARM
    SYSTEMS I'm not sure what to charge for windows. No one wants to see the
    switch ( at least I don't) but hosing up drilling one window may cost the
    profit for the entire job. Anyone want to tell us what they charge? And what
    type of switch they use for windows? I think I have to charge a lot more
    than I have been.

    First off if you're trying to compete with the $100.00 "peel and stick"
    systems, you're looking at two choices:

    1. Do what they do (surface contacts or transmitter/magnet combos);

    2. Don't do it...

    Good solid advice ! The success of my business is a testament to everything
    you say here about the mass marketers approach !!!

    BTW, to change the topic a bit, I understand Sentrol switches are now being
    made in China, and the quality is (supposedly) deteriorating. Any truth to
    this that you know of ?

    I have been using Ademco contacts until the last batch where I got 5
    switches right out of the box that were defective, so I'm thinking about
    going back to GRI....

    Bob, Bob, Bob... I just don't know *why* someone would "switch" (pun
    intended) from GRI in the first place... Once you've used the best, all
    else pales... Yeah... they're expensive, but I just can't see the extra
    2.00 or 3.00 cutting in to your bottom line *that much*... :)

    Frank, the pricing is pretty much the same regardless of who's contacts you
    use. Price is NOT the issue. I don't give a damn what things cost frankly. I
    wan't them to work - period ! I'm on the hook for service, so if they fail,
    I pick up a false alarm ticket.

    I had bad experiences with GRI switches some years ago, and decided to
    change at that point. However, it seems I've just gone from bad to worse.
    Tane I also found poor quality. So I guess it's back to GRI......

    Extend it out to a few hundred or thousand sensors and you have a big chunk

    Ok, thanks for the recommendations. I just got back from buying another 100
    of the GRI contacts, and they didn't have the Sentrol versions of the
    particular contact that I needed.

    But I'm pretty annoyed with that batch of Ademco contacts. I'm not even half
    way through the box and I have 7 contacts that don't work brand new right
    out of the box. Plus another one that caused a false alarm after only two
    days in service that will cost me $60 !!

    Obviously, their quality control sucks....

    no it doesn't sucks...there's no quality control.....

    the company I work for is installing first alert, at first the service
    technician were all crummy about that
    but after a few month they were all happy...cause the company had to hire
    more service tech to fix all those brand new system.
    those are what we call job preserver...

    I've been using primarily GRI for years. There are a few specialties I like
    for special applications from other manufacturers, but I have had very few
    bad GRIs over the years.
