Portable apps are nice especially when moving from computer to computer.
However, some of these work differently when used as portable app as compared to an installed app, especially when an app relies on the windows registry to store information.
Portable apps also cannot be used when system level access is required, e.g. low level drivers.

Otherwise that is a nice feature.

Portable applications are just applications that do not use an installer. All the files needed to run the application reside in one folder, and you can put it anywhere on the system. If you move the folder, the application will still work the same. You usually download it as a ZIP file, unzip the ZIP to a folder, and run the executable file of the application instead of installing a portable application. If the application allows you to save settings, these settings will be saved in a file in the same folder.

Most portable programs actually does work if it's run with admin rights.
