let me add to this what are bulb types ,costs and lifespan i heard
there i the $300+ FOR A 45,50 " TV I ALSO HEARD THAT YOU NEED A UPS
TO PROTECT THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY IN CASE OF A POWER FAILURE TO RUN THE
COOLING FAN SO THE LIGHT ASSY DONT SELF DISTRUCT(COOLDOWN))

Claimed life of the lamp in the Samsung DLP is 8000 hrs. Mine has
about 1200 so far. A couple of weeks ago I accidentally killed power
while it was running.Having been on more than an hour, it was as hot
as it is likely to get. No problem. I don't think it was just luck but
might have been. It normally runs the fans a couple of minutes after
shutdown.

Mine is the HLN507W (50") with the SIR-T165 over the air ATSC
receiver. I built a remote repeater/transcoder to make it easier for
the kids (and parents) to use. It actually works like a TV now.
