Diode question

I have an old paper shredder that is broken and am playing around with it for fun.

On its circuit board there is a diode that is exhibiting some odd behavior to me. When testing the diode with my multimeter on the diode test function directly across said diode I get a reading of 494 and when I reverse my leads I get a reading of 562.

Is this diode bad? I thought I should get a reading in only direction?

welcome to the forums

if you were measuring whilst it was still in circuit then other components connected to the diode could be affecting the reading

unsolder and lift one end and measure again ... if still the same or similar reading, then the diode may well be faulty
