Is there any way of dimming the compact flourecent lights.
Do the dimmers desighned for the tudes works on the compacts?
What happens when they are hooked up in series half voltage?

You have to find a CF that is advertised as dimmable. Most CFs are (more
or less) clearly labeled "not dimmable".

Here is a site with a bit of info on dimmable CFs.

There's a reason dimmers are stamped with the words, "INCANDESCENT ONLY"

Standard dimmers are not for inductive loads.

The store I worked at (Home Hardware) sells dimmable CF's... although I have
yet to try one out. They are pretty expensive, though. We sold way more
tri-light CF's (7w/15/23w) than the dimmable ones and these work very well
in a tri-light socket equipped lamp.
