Hello all...
This set is an Emerson portable color TV, yet oddly enough it doesn't run on
batteries. Owner says it played in fits and spurts and now it is dead on all
modes--none of the TV or radio functions work. There is a faint burnt smell
from inside the cabinet, but I cannot find any burnt or obviously damaged
parts. In fact, the only thing I see that looks interesting is the glue used
on the CRT neck and also on the HOT's heatsink. At the CRT neck the glue has
turned a crispy black and the glue around the HOT is a nasty brown color.
I am not sure the glue is a problem (it only appears to be holding the
heatsink to the board, and doesn't touch any pins on the tube) so I'm
wondering if there are any known common failures with this set. The glue is
the only burned thing I've found anywhere in the set.
Some might say just to discard it, but such little TV sets seem to be rather
expensive and I just fixed their old Sony portable TV so this person has
high hopes that I can get this one fixed too.
