Jesus H Christ! Someone is going to get seriously fucked copying this
trick. I haven't seen anything so stupid since I read the Jolly Roger
cookbook. And how many of those phones will ever work again if slightly
misplaced?

Wonder if it cooked the cell phones too?

...Jim Thompson
Having some doubts...
They video'd it, wouldn't 2.4gish show up on the CCD/ camera

Not necessarily. 802.11 wireless is in the same frequency band and
digital photography or video don't show that.

Granted the power levels are several orders of magnitude lower in the
802.11 than at the raw output of a magnetron.

Sounds good to me, although it should be restricted to the area of
origin exclusively :)

In that movie they only extend the TWO wires running to the heater (with
wires that are much too thin, the heater is very low voltage high current),
and they do not connect a THIRD wire for the anode (normally that is
connected though the metal case of the microwave oven).

This is a hoax about a hoax. This setup will NOT produce microwaves.

I've never owned a microwave, let alone taken one apart

That doesn't make it any less harmful. Just the opposite.

Nice.... a hoax within a hoax! A creative masterpiece!
The magnetron trick is kinda funny (the wiring is wrong) because
it's such a WRONG thing to attempt. If you DID use one like that, the
results would be kind of scary.
The original movie has been edited.... watch where the kernels are
that pop, and their trajectories. The flight pattern does not
originate from the unpopped kernel. My guess, is that a segment was
made with the popped corn falling, then played backward and spliced
in. It's unlikely that popcorn would always take off exactly vertical
in real life.
Otherwise an amusing set of movies.... bound to become an urban
myth amongst the technopeasants!

Consensus seems to be that that photo was staged as well (nothing's actually
plugged into a hot wall outlet).

Even if it was not staged, it may not be too dangerous given potential
lack of earthing paths.
