Don't bother ordering their cataog online. They want your personal info
including phone number so they can call if they can't the catalog to you.

I filled in the request. I got an email back telling me they don't have any
catalogs to send and that I should go online to see their caps.

The following is from the Custom catalog request page.

Request a Catalog (from Custom site)

"Please fill in the form below, to have your free catalog mailed to you.
...................Please complete the entire form so we know where to send
your catalog, and what information should accompany it."

"How will the information you submit to us be used? Only for the catalog. We
are asking for your e-mail address and telephone number in case there is a
problem with your address. Please read our Privacy Policy for more
information."

---------note the words "only for the catalog"

Privacy policy extracts:

"Once you choose to provide us personally identifiable information (any
information by which you can be identified), you can be assured that it will
only be used to support your customer relationship with Custom Electronics,
Inc."

-------"customer relationship" is a vague and open ended term, much
different from "catalog"

"Custom Electronics, Inc. will not sell, rent, or lease your personally
identifiable information to others. Unless we have your permission or are
required by law, we will only share the personal data you provide online
with other Custom Electronics, Inc. entities and/or business partners who
are acting on our behalf to complete the activities described above. Such
Custom Electronics, Inc. entities and/or business partners, including those
located in other countries, are governed by our privacy policies with
respect to the use of this data."

---------this means they can give information away to anyone in the world,
including trading for other's mailing lists. It only says "sell, rent, or
lease". The phrase "business partners who are acting on our behalf to
complete the activities described above." coupled with "to support your
customer relationship with Custom Electronics, Inc." doesn't mean that your
personal info is safely locked away. It means that your info can be
distributed to anyone so long as Custom can derive some applicable meaning
from the phrase "customer relationship."

"Custom Electronics, Inc. will not use or share the personally identifiable
information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described
above without first letting you know and offering you a choice. As
previously stated, we will also provide you the opportunity to let us know
if you do not wish to receive unsolicited direct marketing materials from us
and we will do everything we can to honor such requests."

---------- legaleeeese for we hope you are dumb enough to trust us. Mark

Nice rant. Which "Custom Electronics" are you refering to? Google
gives 52 thousand hits.
