Once, when I was about 17, I carried a 100 lb. bag of flour up
a flight of steps, the hard way, i.e., holding it in my hands in
front of me. I was much stupider back then. ;-)

And stronger! In the Army, at Fort Gordon, GA. we had to move
the contents of a supply room to another bulding. Some crates
containing chains were marked 216 lbs and were on the second
floor. Two of us had a contest to see how far out from the
building we could throw the crates from the window. We each
threw 3 crates. He won.

It's possible an inclined mouse table might be more comfy....
This could be attached to the chair.

I use an inclined mouse table...but that's because it's attached to my
office chair which is reclined to about 30 degrees.

Yabbut, what keeps the mouse from sliding off?

Thanks,
Rich

I routered a recessed area in the mouse table/armrest to make what I
call "the mouse pit".
I move the wireless mouse into the pit when I need to let go of it.
It would be cool if I could turn the mouse pit into a recharging dock
too.
One of my ideas is to replace the mouse pit with magnets and stick
steel pads on the mouse.
The mouse can be placed over the magnetic area and let go.

This guy used a car chair for his computer set up:http://www.robotics.com/chair/
"Then I realized that the most comfortable chair I sit in each day is
my car. If you think about it, it's specifically designed to minimize
fatigue and allow people to sit comfortably for hours."

Myself...
My LCD monitors are on a skinny \_/ shaped bench with only room for
the monitor stands. Clutterfree.
I mounted a mouse table on my armrest.. Was funny to let go of my
wireless mouse and watch it slide off onto the floor :)

Someday I'll be constructing a tube frame to suspend the monitors.
Got inspired by the hovercraft computer workstation in the Matrix
movies.

Anybody have some interesting custom computer station set ups?

Funny thing is Recaro now makes office chairs:

Lying down on an air bed, primary monitor directly in front and above
my midsection/hips, secondary monitor about the same level but to the
right. Cordless keyboard on my tummy (touch typing required). Cordless
laser mouse on hard mouse pad to my left or right side. Built various
versions of this set up for about 10 years. I can use the computer
fatigue free for 10 or more hours. Fallen asleep while using the
computer several times. This setup IMO is a great complement to
vigorous work/exercise, and it's probably better for your back.

Good luck and have fun.

Over $1000!!!
$1599!! for leather :(
But interesting to see the crossover from automotive seating to office
seating.
But,too expensive for me..
I'd rather get a scrap yard car seat for maybe $50.00.

Perhaps a seat from a very smashed up car.
If I put some fake blood on the seat, it might lower the price. :p

Cool..!
I'm surprised I haven't seen this in shopping malls...

How are the monitors supported?
Does the monitor swing out of the way to get on the bed?

At current I'm toying with the idea of a roll cage (like in race cars)
attached to the chair/bed.
That way about 3 monitors can be attached on a 180 degree arc.

They are suspended by nylon rope. You can drill/superglue guides into
the plastic for the rope to go through and around the monitor case. 10
years ago, at first I tried supporting them from underneath, but that
is a bad idea. I was concerned about the monitors swinging around, but
that's not a problem. Suspension is probably the only way to go.

The setup could conceivably contribute to motion sickness, for example
if you play first-person shooters like Tribes 2 (using jet packs in a
first-person shooter is exhilarating and fascinating IMO, but oh
whail). If you don't have to shuffle papers, and if you can force
yourself to get up from time to time like when you need to do
something else, it probably couldn't be healthier.

Using current technology LCD monitors, you'll have a much easier
design than with a 60 pound main monitor like mine.

Good luck and have fun.

Loved the idea of using the car seat as a computer seat. I went to a
local car junkyard today and found a leather Porsche seat in good
condition. Asked how much, the guy said 25 bucks but I have to remove
it myself... what a deal! Here take a look at this setup you can buy,
its nice but too pricey. http://www.thev1chair.com/

I like the diamond plated foot rest... might incorporate that into
mine.

It seems to be missing a massaging heated cushion.

It does not look functional to me. I think it is supposed just look
pretty and look like it sounds good.

Yes..for the posted link
http://www.thev1chair.com/
At first glance, it looks overly stylized.
Often I find overly stylized products tradeoff function.

However, the drivers seat idea seems modern.
In tv days, one just passively sat on the couch and watched.
The couch potato.
Nowadays, the mouse potato interacts and uses controls and it's an
interaction like driving a car.
Monitor>>>windshield
Steering wheel>>>mouse and keyboard

Interesting difference in tastes here - to me, it looks like something
I'd spec if I was having one custom-designed! ;-)

One thing's sure, it looks more comfortable than this:

Cheers!

Groan.... :)

I've been toying with the idea of turning a modern dentist chair into
a computer workstation. But expensive...
Sports car seats from the scrap yard are cheaper but lack leg support.

I imagine... it moves every conceivable way, including a back

My concern is if that air is then directed back
into the passenger compartment!

You have a choice of recirculating air through a HEPA filter or all
fresh.

I also have the leftist weenie gas-exclusion option ;-)

Heck, just feed it to the engine air intake for better fuel milage and
lower unburned methane emissions...;-)

"Martha, better make more beans - I have a long drive tomorrow..."

Might want a flame arrestor - backfires would be a mite uncomfortable.
