    Hello everyone
I am looking for building a count-down timer with no micro-controllers in it....
and there should be a option to set the time manually and display the time correspondingly.

can any anybody suggest the circuit diagram....
    can any one help...??

By eliminating the option of using a microcontroller in your circuit - you may be adding significant complexity to your design. Is this a "challenge" homework project - or are you just leery of using a microcontroller?

Do you want it to display an actual time (i.e. clock time 1:00:00 -> 0:59:59) or just a count that decreases (e.g. 9999 -> 9998...) [edit: or is it a clock?]

Does the count represent seconds? or is it arbitrary, or is it some other period?

    How many digits?

    Count up, or count down?

What should it do when it hits 0 or 9999 (or whatever is the max count).

    Is this a school project?

Need to display actual time. There should be an option to set the time . (countdown)

Display format should be in hours minutes seconds.

    Its a countdown timer.

when the count reaches 0 there should a beep .

    ya its a project.

Well, this sounds like far too complex a project for a beginner, so clearly you are expected to know something. What have you figured out yourself, and where are you having problems?

The problem I am facing is that I not able to display the time in standard format.. i.e in
    hrs min sec(decrementing)...
