So i have no idea how to get this started. So far my attempts have failed. I have an electronic cooling fan. Its labled AC120v 60Hz 16w. I want to be able to run this off some kind of battery. I have tried to connect it to a 8.4v 3000mah rc battery and no go. Is it too weak for the fan motor? I have a lipo I am willing to try but not sure if it will some how mess the battery up so i have yet to it (these batteries are really expensive) any ideas? Is the fan too powerful for a battery?

No.
The fan is designed to run on AC. A battery supplies DC.
You will need to get or make an inverter to up the voltage with 60Hz.
It would be easier to change to a DC motor.

That looks like a pretty standard size cooling fan. Most of that type of fan run off DC, either 5V or 12V. Is there any reason you have to use that particualar fan to run off batteries when there are fans much more suitable for that use?

It says 120VAC 60Hz right on it, it is a shaded pole induction motor.

I understand that. I am just saying that he could get a similar fan that already runs on DC.
