Hi all

I have a CD player I wish to convert to play MP3's ..... the issue is that
it is a fairly expensive SONY 400 player and I imagine what I have to do is
identify the appropriate circuitry/board that handles the PCM stream and
change/modify it. I just have not heard of anyone else ever doing this - and
I wouldn't except for the desire to retain the player and add this
flexibility.

emails gratefully accepted

TIA

It's a very large task.
Essentially, you have to totally throw away the existing circuitry,
and build a MP3 player compatible with the mechanism.
You can't simply modify the PCM stream handling logic, as you've got
to add the ability to do random access to the disk, and support the
ISO9660 filesystem.
Once you rip out the bits you can't use, there is little left.
I don't know much about the Sony 400.
What's so nice about it?

ess has a chip, you figure out how to get to the ide port if it has one,
bypass pcm, add an lcd, use the buttons on front like normal, supports
cd's and stuff, can be used with hard drives. i have a pdf for it on my
site, somewhere.
