I am trying to repair a hand controller for a disabled bath lift (sealed unit). Stripped down and found 7 of the 14 rechargable AA batteries not ok. Have just replaced all batteries. Lift goes up but not down. Not getting the voltage from the connection on the circuit board (17v) that supplies the switch for the down.

Being a mechanical guy I do not really understand what the circuiboard does.

If I short from the positive on the up side to the positive on the down side the lift works.

I do not know if this would compromise the motor or the charging.

Thanks

I don't know Mike. Without seeing a diagram I can't say but I'd suspect its something like a stuck down switch or some safety device inhibiting the down motion.

Thanks for the reply. I put the unit on charge over night. The red light went out. I now know that is the low battery light. With a full voltage the unit works in both directions. Thanks again for your response.
