Hi All,

In my circuit board, there is continuity across the
capacitor ends ,first i thought it has been shorted so even after
removing it from the board,it was showing the continuity across the
two ends of a capacitor,i looked out the possibility of showing the
continuity ,but there is no way of getting it.what could be the reason
behind it.when i tried to measure the value through the DMM it was
showing the wrong value.generally when will show the continuity across
the capacitor. Please give me your valuable suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

With Regards,
sudheervemana.

Good capacitors will read *open*; in other words, NO CONTINUITY!
Now a large electrolytic may take a while to charge up (especially on
the high resistance scales), but will read a rather high resistance at
worst (and will read open when very good).
Some DMMs also have a capacitance setting, with seperate connections
for measurement.
Since you are not being specific, i have no idea as to how you are
trying to make measurements, what you are reading, or what you *think*
is wrong with what you are reading.
..and i also have no idea as to what kind of capacitor or its value
that you are trying to measure.

If you are troubleshooting a circuit and you suspect a short exists
across a specific part, the fastest way to confirm this is to remove
the specific part. If the short follows the part, you've guessed
right.

You've been asking a lot of questions that could have been answered
much more quickly by using similar basic troubleshooting methods.
Obviously, you cannot expect serious responses to these inquiries, if
they continue, without any evidence that you've taken the time to
consult a primer on basic DC circuits.

I get the gist but its hard to understand the details here. If the cap
is shorted its dead.

DearSir,

Before giving the supply to the board , When i tried to
measure the value of an electrolytic capacitor (10uf)on the pcb
through DMM on capacitance settings,it was reading a low value around
1nf and there is no continuity across them .After giving the power and
doing some troubleshooting, later switching off the power i tried to
measure the value, even then it was showing low value around some nano
farads, but this time there is continuity across the pins, what could be
the reason, please help me in this continuity across the discretes.

sudheervemana.
