Connecting the degauss positor incorrectly.

I have reconnected the positor the wrong way around and then swithed
the TV on.
Nothing happened and it didn't turn on anyway. (I had just replaced 2
caps in another section on the PCB).
Now I am wondering if my error would cause much damage or what;
I am really not in the mood to go back to it unless I have something
to feel better about.
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys.

For me the degauss would be essential, if you are happy without it shouldn't
be to too much I feel.

Hello Ali,

1. How can a posistor be connected "the wrong way around"? It is only a
passive resistive component, though slightly "smarter" than a conventional
resistor, so the two terminals should be identical.
2. The fact that the TV does not turn most likely has nothing to do with the
degauss. The degauss circuit is in parallel to the power supply and does not
affect the main functionality of the TV.

Regards,
Boris

Your set has a much bigger problem than the degaussing circuit. The power
supply, and or the scan circuits have to be properly serviced.

I was concerned whether connecting the positor incorrectly would have
damaged many components, like shorting etc. but your replies seem to
indicate that I haven't caused anymore damage than already was there.
Thanks for your reply. I am now happy to proceed.

Hi,
How did you manage?

3-pinned device wil not fit wrong way around. 2 pin devices do not have
"polarity". It is does not matter how you fit it.

Something else is gone in your TV.

Hey Rudolf,
A little correction (to be precise): many 2-pin devices, such as diodes and
electrolytic capacitors to name a few, DO have polarity that should be
considered!

But he's not talking about just any two-pin device, he's talking about
a *PTC*. This is a "positive temperature coefficient" resistor.
Furthermore, to remove *any* doubt, the PTC is connected to AC, so
polarity cannot possibly be an issue.
