I'm creating a half-adder with transistors (no chips), switches, resistors, and jumper wires. To make the XOR gate I am connecting OR, NAND, and AND gates together. Individually I can make each of them and light an LED etc. but I don't know how to connect these gates between each other.

wires are the obvious solution, however it would be useful to see your schematics. It is possible that the output voltage levels are not compatible with the input voltage levels.

I am using wires and I know where they go for the second gate but I don't know where to connect them for the first gate (where the input of the second gate would be coming from).

show us your schematics and the arrangement of gates you are trying to achieve.
