make, model and chassis may help.

you may have to take it a local shop and get an estimate, and ask yourself
if its worth fixing.

I have an 8 year old color TV which had beautiful vivid colors when it was
new. I've noticed in past months that the colors becoming duller and duller
(washed out). Can this phenomenon be repaired?

Make? Model?

Lots of possibilities here, too numerous to speculate with. A make and
model ID may lead to a common cause, in some cases at least.

With that one I'd say a weakening CRT.

They may be more different than ever, actually.

Probably a the chroma Xtal drifting. My 20 Yr old RCA was doing that,
tweaked the XTAL tuning capacitor, color is like new again.
