CODEC for VHF Radio Link?

  1. Hi:

I would like to be able to convert a voice signal into a digital signal
and send it over a VHF radio link. Searching the web I found the Harris
55564 and Motorola MC3517/8 but these are now out of production.
There's a lot of expensive Bluetooth stuff, but I'm looking for an
inexpensive solution. Are there any simple ICs for doing this? A good
    reference textbook?

Maybe OnSemi has the old Mot parts now. I googled

    cvsd delta sigma

Try that. Maybe Analog Devices has something like this.

Search for "NEXCOM" or "VDL-4" for ideas on what's going on in industry in
    this area.

It isn't my specialty, but I'm wondering if nowadays "general" processors aren't
being used and the codec is largely software/firmware. I did a google for
"CELP" (Code Excited Linear Prediction) and didn't really get hits on chips.
