Full page ad here in the local newspaper. Smelled like BS, and it seems
to be just that:

http://stopthecap.com/2012/04/02/cl...business-bureau-review-ad-confuses-consumers/

The local ad cites Dr. Argy Petros who has NASA credentials. WTF goes on
here? Does one lose ones job with NASA and then become a snake oiler?

Apparently.
I expect it pays well though selling $1 junk to suckers for $50..

There appear to be no advertising standards in America then?
Scammer adverts designed to masquerade as newspaper articles.
Clever use of words so that their claims are strictly true.

And a spineless toothless BBB wringing its hands Pontius Pilot style...

The Better Business Bureau is, first and foremost, a group of the good
guys, set up so they can

That's debatable at best. To many the BBB is an organization that has
the ethics of a politician. If you are a member, you can do no wrong, if
you are not a member (and won't join) you are automatically labeled a
scam artist or incompetent.

I'm not as old as Jim (is anyone?), but I think I'm starting to subscribe to his theory that nearly everything is a scam.

Because he's right, basically. One difference between the 'State
Register..." and the BBB is that the BBB is not government in any way,
shape or form--and they are virtually free to do anything they want as
they are answerable to no one except themselves.

Government does otherwise?
