All I find on the absolutely worthless hp site is instructions to
disconnect power before wiping the outer surface of the glass ;-)

...Jim Thompson

Not surprising. They might still have some decent support people at HP
though unless they have laid them off and sent all the work to
Bangalore. Maybe they're afraid you'll cut yourself on the glass and
sue them.

Best regards,
Spehro Pefhany

I will ;-)

...Jim Thompson

If they had only supplied proper instructions on how to perform the
task safely, as promised in their manual. By George, I think you have
a solid case, should you be so unfortunate as to injure yourself.

I will take special "pains" to satisfy the case ;-)

If you get impatient and you're feeling destructive :)
And... the scanner is slow and old and it's time to get a new one then
do this risky thing:
1) Put duct tape on the glass
2) Turn it upside down and smash the glass with hammer
3) Replace glass with something cut by a glass shop
4) Silicone the new glass in place..
Note: You could also devise a means to make the glass easy to remove
for future cleaning. (drop in frame..)
The fog up might return.

Where DO you come up with these stupid ideas? Do you have any idea
of what kind of glass is used in a scanner? Do you have any idea how
its mounted? Or how critical the thickness is?

Hee hee :) I make'm up for the entertainment factor..
If the scanner is for non-critical scans..then it might be ok..
Getting good scans of porno mags might be questionable.

But yeah...I don't know much about scanners.. It shows? :)

It might be like my old UMAX scanner that I had to remove the entire outer
case by pulling the 4 screws on the bottom. Use a lint free cloth and
windex.

Damn!! You made me spew my coffee again ;-)
You're so fucking stupid that you thought *that* was funny?

BTW, dumbfuck, only me and one other respondent actually provided you
with viable answers. Nice that you're such a fucking dolt that you
didn't notice.

For instructions on cleaning the underside of the scanner glass, go to
www.hp.com/support, select your country or region, navigate to the
support page for your scanner, then click the link to view information
about cleaning the underside of the glass.

I was unable to locate anything. Even the FAQ search for cleaning the
glass makes no mention of any surface other than the exposed surface.
Very lame, they are.

Are you really so stupid as to think that duct tape would stop glass
shards from getting all over the inside of the device?

That is more retarded than your Intellectual Property theft spew was.

That has nothing to do with it, idiot. His stupidity lies in the duct
tape suggestion.

Glass might look green on edge, but a piece that thin is NOT going to
alter the color of a capture, so standard double strength glass would
surely work just fine, idiot.

You couldn't find this?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...us&dlc=en&submit.y=0&submit.x=0&lang=en&cc=us

Did you try http://www.hp.com/support, like Speff suggested, or just
go to the bare www.hp.com?

Good Luck!
Rich

OK, idiot. Now find the instruction for cleaning the UNDERSIDE of the
glass.

You know... the dis-assembly procedure, and such...

I didn't see it, and I spent 15 minutes of my time looking for that
piece of shit Thompson's lazy fucktard ass. Now that I realize that he
is just as retarded as the TerrellTard, I won't give the fuckhead any
more of my time.

Wow, you don't care how many people see how truely stupid you are. I
know a guy that tried 'standard double strength glass' instead of the
optical grade glass. It caused so much distortion in the scanned images
that it was useless, just like you.

Ah yes, and the irresistable f***tard finally comes out.

I'm not sure why dorkmatter/miniprong/RoyLFuchs/Nunyabidness/
SuperM/Tokamundo/joebloe/JackSheperd... even bothers to change his nym.
It only takes a couple of posts with a new nym before he returns
to his usual belligerent self.

Michael, if you would resist the urge to roll this cold ball
of monkey excrement around on the floor those of us who have
plonked him would sure appreciate it.... at the very least, your
fingers would be less smelly.

The duct tape helps but is not 100%.
That's why I suggested also turning the scanner upside down and then
cracking the glass enough such that it can be pulled away.

I did a very brief search for replacement glass.
http://www.anchoroptics.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=273

If you don't like the duct tape idea then how about this EVEN crazier
idea!! :)

Take a circular saw and cut off the entire top of the scanner.
Clean the glass and then glue the top back on..... :)

You're full of shit. He probably used a piece of 1800' era pan poured
glass. Par for the course with you, and your twited friends.
