Hi folks,

I have a 24Vdc 50mA signal that, right now, stays at a constant 24Vdc when powered up and 0V when not powered.

However, I need the the signal to spike 24Vdc, once, then drop to 0V in a split second, say 0.5 seconds, when powered up and be 0V when not powered.

I do not have any programatic control over the signal, hence the need for some sort of ancillary circuit.

I am pretty horible at electronic circuit design... I am hoping that some kind person could, pretty please, knock up a simple circuit diagram that would solve this?

Monostabe circuit ....most of what first comes to mind though requires the circuit to be on and wait for a trigger pulse to give the one output pulse of a predetermined time rather than a high, low at power up.
Then again maybe a transistor resistor capacitor might get you there.

More detail on what you are trying to achieve might be more helpful.

Put a capacitor in series. When 24VDC is energized, a pulse will appear at the other capacitor terminal.

24 VDC----------------------||-------------------------24 VDC spike

The capacitor value and the load resistance to the spike determines how long the spike will be.
time = RC
