I have connected a mini ac alternator to a motorcycle engine to run some led lighting. The alternator specs are voltage range 3-24v, current 0.1A - 1A, rated power 0.5 - 12w. The light bulbs are voltage range 1.5 - 9v ac/dc, output 0.5 - 1w. The system works but I want to connect a capacitor to keep the lights bright when the alternator is running at low rpm. I cannot work out what type or size capacitor would be suitable. Thanks for any advice.

    Agreed.

Use the alternator (plus rectifier and charge controller) to charge a battery. Run the lamps from the battery.

Have to agree with Harald. It makes most sense.
