Never could work out how they thought it would be secure.

_properly_ implemented, it could be secure.
    As could much.

" Fears are growing that chip-and-pin credit card technology, which is designed
to cut plastic theft, is not as safe as we have been led to believe by card
    companies.

The oil company Shell has suspended use of the technology in 600 of its petrol
stations after more than £1m was stolen from customers’ accounts by bogus
engineers who fitted chip-and-pin keypads with memory chips that logged
customers’ cards numbers and pin codes.

Eight people have been arrested in connection with the fraud, which is being
investigated by the Metropolitan Police cheque and plastic crime unit, and those
affected should be reimbursed by their banks.

However, the success of the fraud has raised fears that increasingly
sophisticated scams will be used to target consumers using the new cards.

The Association of Payment Clearing Services (Apacs) is playing down the gravity
of the incident, although it admits that the technology has failed in this
    instance....................... "

Have you become so retarded that you can't see this is a technology issue
related to the use of electronics ?

The matter is simply another everyday business / legal issue QUITE unrelated
to the discipline of electronics design.

    I'd suspect it's actually WHAT.

    But I could be wrong.

    John

Oh, I see you're still having trouble with that ? key sticking.
Drooling on keyboards can do that.

I thought the problem was the 'engineers' chipping the readers and
stealing the information. Chip and Pin could be super secure, but
somewhere the data is non-secure, such as when the user enters their
pin number. The thieve's motto may be "If you can't break into the
safe quickly, steal the safe and work on it at your leisure".

With chip and pin showing a vulnerability within a year of widespread
use, who thinks the UK's ID scheme will be secure?

  16. Sorry mate you are one FUCKING MORON - why flame this guy just ignore it if
    it bothers you.
or is it that it did not happen in the big old US of A it didn't happen -

Is Oz actually a continent, or is it incontinent?

But more important - I'm surprised nobody has asked - is what the hell
    does chip-and-pin mean?
