  1. There have been reports of ye olde TO3 transistors with a silicon die size
that would compete with a TO92 style transistor.
Works great under test meter conditions, goes pop under real-life use.

I never saw the point of the expense of the TO3 case verses the
insignificant saving in silicon to make the scam worthwhile, but then again,
no-one said scammers had to be smart...

This was some time back, so I wouldn't be surprised to still see scams such
    as these around today.

Surely if you were going to go to the trouble you'd at least match the
voltage?? And maybe throw in some ballast so it isn't the same weight as an
    'AA' battery from clints.

** Who do you imagine is the target of the scam ??

It's not manufacturers or any reputable component wholesalers for starters.

I understand they they likely end up as 'surplus' on Ebay. However, if the
pop when first powerd up the buyer is less likely to think "I still have
ripple on the rails of my get some more of those caps and really
    beef it up" :)

  6. Hi Don

To change the subject but slightly ...

Have you received that Asus notebook tht you wrote about earlier ?

If so, how do you like it ?

I am really keen to to get one but so far I can't find one in WA. I
would be very interested to hear about your experience with ordering
    one from overseas.

  7. Thanks for the info Don.

It sounds like a wonderful little machine. Just one further query: How
long did you have to wait for delivery ?
