  1. I'm still thinking on battery charging ideas...

If I want to use an SCR for controlling unfiltered pulsating DC coming off a
rectifier, does anyone see a problem with using an optocoupler between the
gate and the anode to provide gate drive?

Does it matter if the input side of that opto is driven with DC, or pulsed,
    or whatever?

Do I need some current-limiting resistance in series with that opto output?

I saw a circuit *ages* ago that used something of the sort for a battery
charger but they had a pulse transformer conntected gate-to-cathode instead.
And I really don't want to go there, if I can avoid it.
