Hey Gang,

I have a Datatrap recording pressure and temperature data every second.
it runs on two D cells.

The project is to grab its data via a RS232 cable and transmit, once a day.

What do we think are the best Micro-controllers and cell modules for this?

Pycom.io have the Gpy coming out in a few months that seem to be my needs wrapped up in one but time is not on my side.

I will add a 35Ah AGM battery with solar panel as there are no mains out there.

I do have a Raspberry Pi 2B in the draw- maybe there is a add-on to that i could use?
Maybe an ardunio project?

There is a lot out there, but it just confuses begineers like me!

Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Depending on how much you need a low power system you might want to think about swapping out the Pi 2B for a Pi Zero. It uses about 1/3 the power if you don't need wifi. Rather than D cells why not use a much larger battery, like a car battery or UPS battery if size and weight aren't an issue. I have used a DS18B20 temperature sensor with a Pi and they work well and are inexpensive. I think they may also have One Wire pressure sensors as well.
