Hi, trying to replace a cctv camera but when I took the old one down the power lead was two core red and white whereas the new camera power lead has two reds and one black. Before I blow anything up I'd like to know how to wire it to power. There is a separate video lead, tha nks.

The vast majority of CCTV cams that I worked with accepted both AC or DC power. In fact I'm struggling to remember the last DC only model I worked with. It was that long ago.

Hi, the problem is there are no markings. Maybe I wasn't too clear, the old camera power wires are one red and one white, connected to the live feed by a terminal block. To fit the new camera I've had to cut the power lead and there are two reds and one black. On the assumption that the black was meant to be connected to the blue neutral wire I was left trying to find out which red to use. Like I said I don't want to fry the camera so how do I determine which red to connect to the live?

"neutral"? Are we talking AC mains here, or low voltage DC? Where are you located?

AC mains, just took the connector for the power apart and the two reds are soldered to the same post for some weird reason so I'm assuming that I connect both reds to the brown. Bit odd.

Post a clear photo of the rear of the camera with particular focus on the terminal block.

Hi, thanks for the info, solved in the end, both reds have to be connected, traced them back and one goes to the IR lights and the other goes to the camera, should have thought of that. Once again ta for the help, I shall go and hang my head in shame.
